The whole village gathers and celebrates each function. No festival or an occasion proceeds without our badaga dance. Apart from this is we celebrate almost all festivals with our unique white attire with the pride white turban. The people are known for their hard work and sincerity. Even the house wives go to the plantations for work. Many have moved to towns for higher studies. People in the village are educated and all are involved either in the agriculture or some business. After the bajans and the prayers a family from the village offers some sweet dish or food to the god and it is distributed to the people. And one of the interesting tradition is that, the people in our village go to the temple every Monday, sing bajans and devotional songs praising the god. It is situated high on the mountain top, and one has to walk miles to reach the place. And, that is nothing but the temple called Devar Betta. A golden colored brightly shining object is seen from there. Nearby is the wood which is the home for the big animals. You can also see a beautiful water falls running along side the hill. And, of course the badaga dance is the highlighting part of the entertainment. I would call this place as heaven as the people cook, eat and enjoy the day. It is real fun to climb up the mountains and hills to see the goddess. New year and the first day of the may month are the two days when our people gather. But, it always feels great when the whole village and the people from other places gather and celebrate the big days. This situated deeply inside the woods and in the peak of the mountain, it is quite far away from our village. And twice in a year we always find our way towards the popular lakadi Gudi(temple), where the goddess Lakshmi is worshiped. As Hethai amman is considered to be our goddess, we have a separate temple for the god in Attuboil. Mari Habba(festival), and the Hethai Habba are the two main festivals celebrated in our place. It gets dried and suffer from the winter wind.Though tea is the main occupation, we also plant potatoes and the famous smooth butter beans. The cold not only affect us and spoil our skin, but also the tea leaves. So, you can spot the tantalizing sight of the over spread of greens around the village. Tea plantation is the major occupation in our village. But still, the sight and the place between the woods are always memorable. During December the cold breeze and snow, is definitely frustrating. Every one who first visit the village are thrilled by the experience. And that means you have to literally climb stairs to reach the colony. A colony consist of ten to fifteen houses and the next colony is above the slope. The first thing that strikes about the New Attuboil is the row of houses sitting comfortably on the slopes. We are from the badaga community, the indigenous group forming the major population of the queen hills. This little caravan consists of more than hundred houses. It is called as new attuboil, as our parents shifted from the old attuboil which is situated near the emerald dam. Yes, am speaking about my native Attuboil, one of the beautiful villages in the ooty, Tamilnadu.
